Hunting in Zimbabwe
Our concessions in Zimbabwe are the perfect base for dangerous game hunting.
Lake Kariba (Gache Gache, Matsudona) are famous for large crocodile and hippo. Lion, elephant and buffalo are also common in prime hunting concessions. Plains game are generally scarcer in Zimbabwe than in neighbouring countries but select species are available in well managed areas.
Camp life is a relatively basic affair but still comfortable enough to never want to leave. Chalets are thatched and en-suite. WiFi is available in camp at certain times of the day (ie when the generator is running). Meals are prepared on the open fire.
Getting there:
After arriving in Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airports, where Safaris will meet you, fly to Harare or Victoria Falls Airport on a regional flight. Flight duration is 1 ½ hr. Charter flights and land transfers will get you into the heart of your hunting concession.
Best Hunting Seasons:
Prime hunting season in Zimbabwe is from May to November. The summer months can be extremely hot and the foliage is often still too dense to hunt successfully.
Non-hunting Activities:
- visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and white-water raft down the Zambezi River
- fish for tiger fish on Lake Kariba and along the Zambezi River
- sunset booze cruise upriver from Victoria Falls
- big five game viewing along the Chobe River
Terrain:
The terrain in Zimbabwe varies from thickly wooded savannah to large, open floodplains along the rivers and lakes.
Medical:
Zimbabwe is a malaria area. Consult your physician about taking malaria prophylaxis
